Well, How important is Sleep and Rest?

The Answer is Not all that Simple

Proper sleep is inter-dependant with our health issues and stress levels. Both the past and current history, play a very large role in illness. One simple and sound way to deal with these issues is to lay the ground-work for a sound rest. This is restorative healing time. It is when our body naturally restores itself. We need to encourage our bodies to recover fully. How can we encourage this? Read on...

The All Important Mattress

We should use the best support mattress we can afford. Unfortunately the prices can be huge and the quality iffy. But don't despair, even those of us on a budget can improve the quality of our rest by using a foam pad. Any hi-density foam pad will assist your rest by equalizing your body contact points. Regular foam is too weak a support surface to do the job effectively.

The Tempur Pedic Company makes a special type of temperature sensitive pressure relieving foam that molds to your shape, providing the best of support and comfort. These pressure relieving qualities will improve the restful nature of your sleep. They offer full-bed ensembles, in a number of styles, as well as mattress pads and complementing items such as pillows or cushions for special support areas, such as wheel-chairs, lumbar support, pad covers, etc...This material works by sensing our temperature and displacing our weight evenly across the whole reclining area. Thus reducing pressure points and improving circulation. In a double bed, each person creates their own unique environment and sleeping surface. The mattress system is a large investment. However, the mattress pads (available in varying thickness) are quite cost effective and portable (home and cottage).

The old stand-by spring coil mattress has been around since the 1920's. The choices are abundant and the quality varies as much. With some effort you can compare the values of each brand name and choose what is best for you. The prices can be extremely low and extremely high.

Another option is the adjustable bed. Electric motors move the base platform and thereby adjust the shape of the sleeping surface. They can be individually adjustable for each sleeper. They usually include heaters and massagers as well. You can buy the base/frame unit separately and then buy the special mattress. Whichever you choose be prepared for high prices, such that financing is usually offered. The warranty, 25 to 40 years, is very important with this purchase. Check carefully! Also ensure that delivery includes assembly and set-up, as this can be a big job.

There is another option; the Grounding Mattress Pad. This is a "bare-foot" analogy for sleeping. Remember how good it felt to go "bare-foot" on the beach or lawn. Well a guy named Clint Ober believes his Grounding Pad will do the same thing for you as you rest. And test subjects seem to back him up. You know that metal bracelet people wear to alleviate pain. Well the Grounding Mattress Pad works on a similar electro conductivity principle to bring you some of the earth's natural direct current voltage. Mr. Ober claims this creates a natural protective electron shield (Faraday Cage) on your bodies surface, that protects the body from the harmful effects of free radicals as we rest. Apparently, Lance Armstrong and the whole U.S. Cycling Team, along with their physician, were very impressed with the results from using this pad. Scientists are postulating that aging and disease are primarily caused by the attack of free radicals against living tissue.

So get some "sleep"!
